Narcotics Anonymous (”NA”) is an organization of drug addicts helping other addicts. The organization hosts 43,900 meetings each week in 127 countries around the world.
Narcotics Anonymous Overview system.
The first NA meetings were held in Los Angeles, California, in the early 1950s. Its program is based on the one used by Alcoholics Anonymous. By the early 1970s, NA established chapters in other major U.S. cities and in Australia. In 1983, NA published a book entitled, “Basic Text,” which brought more attention to its activities. Enrollment jumped as a result, and by the end of the year, the group was active in more than 12 countries.
Philosophy of work.
NA is a not-for-profit organization that provides help and support to people who are trying to stay clean from drugs. How long a member used drugs or how much they ingested is not important; all a member needs to join NA is the desire to live a drug-free life. The group is open to people addicted to any kind of drug.
Traditions, Steps, and Process
NA is a 12-step program that provides support to its members. At meetings, members are free to share their challenges in learning how to live without using drugs, as well as their triumph in achieving their goal of staying clean “one day at a time.” NA is not a religious institution, and each member is encouraged to interpret the step of turning their lives over to a Higher Power in the way that fits with their personal beliefs.
Members of NA are encouraged to abstain from using all forms of drugs, including alcohol. The group has the opinion that complete abstinence makes it easier for its members to make the personal changes necessary to sustain their recovery. The exception to this policy is when psychiatric or other medications have been prescribed by a physician and used according to directions.
Effectiveness: Does Narcotics Anonymous Work?
According to the NA web site, a survey of its members indicated that they had a mean number of 9.1 years clean. The results of the 2007 survey also revealed that 90 percent of the organization’s members felt their lives were richer after seeking help from the group. In addition, 83 percent felt a stronger sense of social connections after joining.
Controversy and Criticism
Different groups had their own opinions about the content contained in the book put out by NA, which led to some internal controversy. In 1988, the NA World Conference made a determination that the 5th Edition of the group’s text is the only one that is officially approved for distribution and sale.

Genital Herpes Information – How I lessened my Herpes Outbreaks
I am writing this article to tell you that just because you have herpes it is not the end of the world. I have had herpes for over a year now and when I was first diagnosed I was emotionally devastated. The first thing that I did go on the Internet and do some research I was quite surprised at all the information online about herpes.
One of the things that you should be aware of is that you are not alone. Millions of men and women have herpes. I have both forms of herpes I get an occasional outbreak on my lip and about once a year I have a genital herpes outbreak.
I have lessened my outbreak’s by a eating right, eliminating all high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, refined sugars and artificial ingredients from my diet. I also stopped eating fast food and cook all of my own meals. I went from having an outbreak every other month to less than once a year. I attribute the less frequent outbreaks to the changing my diet. I use no herbal supplements but I do take my vitamins every day and I take fish oil for my heart.
If you are having frequent outbreaks then maybe you should try changing your diet up a little bit and you might find that you herpes goes away for quite a long time.
Many people say that coffee will cause outbreaks, that is not my case because I drink coffee like water. They also say that smoking marijuana will cause frequent outbreaks, that is also not the case with me.
There are many natural products that claim they can eliminate herpes forever. Don’t be believe these ads. When people are first diagnosed with herpes they are looking for help and answers. First thing most people search for online is to find out if there is a cure for herpes and then they bombarded with ads claiming their product can cure your herpes. Don’t believe it! Don’t fall for the false claims it because it simply isn’t true.
If there was a natural cure for herpes don’t you think it would be in the news and written up in every major magazine. I believe when people take these would-be cures for herpes and for some reason their are outbreaks go away or become less frequent it is all in the person’s mind.
The proof of this is in medical testing. When a drug is tested they give half of the people in the study a placebo and the other half of the drug. In just about every case study whether it’s a stop smoking drug or a cancer drug some people are cured when they take the placebo. The power of the mind is God’s gift and can heal you if you really believe that the product will work.
The best thing to do if you really want to find out how people handle their herpes outbreaks and deal with their personal life such as dating and things is to join a herpes dating website. Most are free to join and you can check out the forums and read what actual suffers have to say.
Whether you’re looking for information on how to date with your condition or just hear what other people have to say about it and hear what works for them I recommend going into the forums on one of these sites. There you will find real questions and answers from real people who have herpes just like you and I.
http://HerpesAndYouDating.com is a great website that has made me whole again. I now have control of my condition and a great girlfriend. I now write articles in my spare about herpes.
